The prices of oil have been stumbling for several months now mainly due to the increase of supply coming from the U.S. (up by 4m barrels a day since 2009). The glut of oil in America led to the plummeting of oil imports in the country, contributing to a surplus in the world market.

Despite the decline in prices, however, the industry that produces the precious black gold remains strong. In fact, other oil and gas companies decided not to curb their production and kept prices up despite the surplus. Last year, Israel – a country that recently discovered oil underground – even looked for associates that could help in pumping gas from the ground and exploring more of the valued commodity.

There are a lot of jobs available in the oil and gas sector and many of them are high-paying, particularly in Australia. Drilling jobs in Australia remain in-demand because trillions of dollars worth of oil in the country have been discovered in 2013. Today, most of that oil are yet to be extracted.

Offshore Energy Today made a list of the 10 highest-paying jobs in the industry based on Swift Worldwide Resource’s 250 job positions for oil and gas. Swift is Unaoil’s partner in servicing oil and gas companies in Southern Iraq.

“As a global staffing company, we’re able to track shifts in the way jobs are compensated in different regions,” said Tobias Read, CEO of Swift. “High project workloads and a shortage of skilled talent have kept compensation high in Australia. Both Iraq and Nigeria have seen unprecedented growth in industry activity, and workers there are compensated for the risks that come with working in the more dangerous areas, accounting for the increase in salary ranges.”
